Dr Md Shahjahan Kabir a distinguished Agricultural Scientist of the country, joined Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) on Thursday (31 August 2017) as its Director General. Prior to the new position Dr Kabir has been the Director (Administration and Common Service) of the Institute. He began his career as a Scientific Officer in Agricultural Statistics Division of the Institute in 1994 and devotedly performing his duties at different positions over the last 30 years. He obtained his BSc (Hons) degree in 1987 and MSc degree in 1988 from the Rajshahi University. He devoted his whole career as a rice scientist. He undertook his PhD research on ‘Geo-Statistical Modelling’.  Dr. Kabir is the senior most scientist in National Agricultural Research System (NARS) of the country and a pioneer in geo-statistical modelling. His research interests include stochastic modelling, statistical dynamics for rice, climate change, GIS and remote sensing and rice policy. He has written over 106 Publications (journals and books) in national and international scientific domains. Dr Kabir was born in 1966 in Digla village of the Netrakona district. He has visited many countries including Philippines, Japan, India, Thailand, Nepal, Bhutan, Australia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, ‍Singapore, USA, Canada, Germany, France, Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Italy and China in relation to his research works. He is blessed with two sons.

Dr. Mohammad Khalequzzaman
Dr. Mohammad Khalequzzaman Currently serving as Director (Research) current charge. As Director (Research) coordinate and supervise all the research programs in all divisions of BRRI HQ and regional stations along with management of training and higher studies issues. Apart from this making liaison with different national and international organizations for research and higher studies. Mohammad does research in Genetics, Plant breeding, Botany & Biotechnology and seed science. He has more than 130 research publications in his credit. Their most recent publication is 'QLTs mapping underpin nutrition components in aromatic rice germplasm.Dr. Mohammad Khalequzzaman is affiliated to Farm Management. Dr. Mohammad Khalequzzaman has authored and co-authored multiple peer-reviewed scientific papers and presented works at many national and International conferences. Dr. Mohammad Khalequzzaman contributions have acclaimed recognition from honorable subject experts around the world. Dr. Mohammad Khalequzzaman is actively associated with different societies and academies. Dr. Mohammad Khalequzzaman academic career is decorated with several reputed awards and funding. Dr. Mohammad Khalequzzaman research interests include Tissue Engineering and Biomechanics.

Dr. Bhandari Leads
As Country Representative for Bangladesh, Dr. Bhandari leads IRRI's programs in the country which includes developing strategies, managing the office and programs, liaising with the government, and handling stakeholder relations. As an agricultural economist, Dr. Bhandari undertakes socio-economic research activities in agriculture, food systems, and rural development with special focus on research-for-development in agriculture development, rural livelihoods, food and nutrition security, natural resources management, climate change, agribusiness and markets, agri-food value chains, gender and youth, rural institutions, agricultural policies, and public-private partnerships. Dr. Bhandari has 20 years of experience in designing, implementing, and managing large-scale agricultural and rural development projects. He joined IRRI as a Postdoctoral Fellow at IRRI HQ. Prior to IRRI, he was a Japan Society Promotion of Science Research Fellow at the Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Science and an Assistant Professor at Tribhuvan University, Nepal. In addition to Bangladesh, he has worked in several other countries in South Asia, Southeast Asia, and East Asia, engaging with a wide range of stakeholders including government, academic and research institutes, NGOs, the private sector, development partners, and grassroots organizations.
He holds a PhD in Agricultural and Environmental Economics from the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), Philippines. He earned his MSc in Agricultural and Environmental Economics and BSc in Agriculture from Tribhuvan University, Nepal. He was awarded the Mahendra Bidhya Bhusan Gold Medal by His Majesty King Gyanendra Bir Bikram Saha Dev of Nepal.

Dr Jiaoqun Shi
Dr Jiaoqun Shi has joined as the new Representative for Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Bangladesh and today he submitted his credential to Dr Hasan Mahmud, Foreign Minister of Bangladesh, at the office of Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Dr Shi, a national of China, holds a Master of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts in History from Wuhan University, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Law from the National Academy of Governance in China. He joined FAO in 2019 as Senior Compliance Advisor to the Deputy Director-General at FAO Headquarters in Rome, Italy and since January 2021, he had been serving as Special Adviser at the FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (RAP) in Bangkok, Thailand.
Dr Jiaoqun Shi started his career in 1988 as Researcher in the Xiangfan Prefecture, Government of China, in Xiangfan, China. From 1996 to 2004, he served as Deputy Director of Personnel in the Appointment Division at the Ministry of Finance in Beijing, China. Between 2007 and 2010, he was Director of the General Division at the Ministry of Finance in Beijing, China. In 2009, he worked as Deputy Prefecture Governor for the Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture Government in Xiangxi, China. From 2010 to 2016, he served as Deputy Director-General of the General Office at the Ministry of Finance in Beijing, China. Between 2016 and 2019, he was Deputy Representative at the Permanent Representation of the People’s Republic of China to the three United Nations Rome-based Agencies (RBAs) in Rome, Italy.

Dr. Debasish Sarker
Renowned agricultural scientist and prominent entomologist Dr. Debasish Sarker has taken over as the Director General (Current Charge) of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) on Thursday 21 October 2021 as per the order issued by the Ministry of Agriculture. Before taking charge as Director General, Dr. Debasish Sarker was the Director of Pulses Research Center, BARI, Ishwardi, Pabna. Earlier, he was working as Chief Scientific Officer of the Entomology Division of BARI, Gazipur. In addition to his role as Chief Scientific Officer, he also served as the Director of the project entitled “Development and expansion of bio-rational based integrated pest management technologies of vegetables, fruits and betel leaf” under GoB.
Dr. Debasish Sarker was born on 31 December 1963 in the village of Chawalpara in Sadar upazila of Joypurhat district. He joined the then Mango Research Station (presently Regional Horticulture Research Centre), BARI, Chapainawabganj in 1990 as a scientific officer. He was subsequently promoted to the rank of Senior Scientific Officer, Principal Scientific Officer and Chief Scientific Officer at the Entomology Division of BARI, Gazipur. Dr. Debasish Sarker successfully obtained his PhD in Entomology from Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh in 2010. He has published 40 research articles in various home and foreign scientific journals. He also regularly publishes various articles on science research in daily and monthly magazines.

Dr. Debasish Sarker traveled to Thailand, Sri Lanka, India, Philippines, Taiwan, China and the United Kingdom to attend various trainings, seminars, workshops and symposiums. He was twice elected Treasurer and Secretary General of the Bangladesh Entomological Society, respectively. He is also a life member of Krishibid Institute Bangladesh and an active member of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute Scientists Association (BARISA). Dr. Debasish Sarker is a scientist who has been very successful for the development of bio-rational based effective technologies in insect-pest management arena to ensure food and nutritional security.

Dr. Badal Chandra Biswas 
Badal Chandra Biswas joined as Director General of Agriculture Extension on December 29, 2022. Before this he was working as director of surface wing of this department. Badal Chandra Biswas is a 10th batch officer of BCS (Agriculture) cadre. He started his career on December 11, 1991 as a content officer in Shivchar, Madaripur. Then he worked in Sirajganj, Rajshahi, Barguna, Khulna, Satkhira and Jessore districts. He served as the Chief Instructor at the Farmers Training Institute. Also, he made outstanding contribution in the field of agriculture by performing various important duties at the field level. Enriched with this experience of working in diverse agricultural regions of the country, he successfully served as Additional Director (Monitoring) in Surface Wing, Directorate of Agriculture Extension, Khamarbari, Dhaka and later as Director of the same wing. Badal Chandra Biswas was born in September 1964 in the house of Mr. Niranjan Biswas and Rani Biswas in Ujani village of Maksudpur upazila of Gopalganj district. He passed SSC in 1979 from Bashbaria Ujani Kashalia High School and HSC in 1981 from Government Nazimuddin University College, Madaripur. He obtained his B.Sc Agriculture (Honours) from Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh in 1987 and his Master's Degree in Agriculture with First Class from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University. During his educational life he was involved in various cultural activities including Udichi, sports hall, debate organization. He is a skilled organizer. He participated in numerous national and international seminars, workshops and training programs during his career.

Dr. Shaikh Mohammad Bokhtiar 
Dr. Shaikh Mohammad Bokhtiar joined Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) on December 31, 2019 as Executive Chairman. Earlier, Dr. Bokhtiar served as the Member Director (Planning and Evaluation) in the same organization. He is also served as the Director (SAARC Agriculture Centre), BARC Complex, Farmgate, Dhaka Dr. S M Bokhtiar obtained B.Sc. Ag (Hons.) degree from Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Mymensingh in 1985 and MS (Soil Science) from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU), Gazipur in 1999. He did Ph. D from the United Graduate School of Agricultural Science, Ehime University, Japan in 2006. Dr. Bokhtiar also worked as post-doctoral research fellow at Guangxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Guangxi, China for two years where his research work was on Silicon Nutrition of Sugarcane Crop.
He started his carrier as a Scientific Officer in Farming Systems Research and Development Project (FSR&D) at Bangladesh Sugarcrop Research Institute (BSRI) in 1989. He was promoted as Senior Scientific Officer and also performed as the Head of Soils & Nutrition Division, BSRI.  Subsequently, he was appointed as Principal Scientific Officer (PSO) at Soils Unit of Natural Resources Management Division of BARC in 2012. During his service at BARC Dr. Bokhtiar also served as the Director (Support Service) and Director (Technology Transfer and Monitoring).
Dr. Bokhtiar has 60 published research papers with total citations of 450 (according to Google Scholar) and he is the author of eight books. Dr. Bokhtiar attended several national and international seminars, workshop and training programs at home and abroad. In connection with official assignments he visited several countries like Japan, Thailand, China, Egypt, Philippine, Malaysia, Mongolia, South Korea, Pakistan, New Zealand, India, USA, Ghana, Ethiopia, Australia, France, Germany, Netherland, Kenya, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Nepal. Born in a respected Muslim family in 1963 in the village Fakirpara under Chapainawabganj District Dr. Bokhtiar is the father of two sons. Spouse Wahida Akhter is serving as a Secretary recruited under 13th BCS (Admin). His father Mr. Sheikh Lal Mohammad was an ideal school teacher and also a renowned vocalist.
 

Mr. Abdullah Sajjad
Mr. Abdullah Sajjad joined as Chairman (Grade-1) of NDC Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) on 29 December 2022. Before joining BADC, he was working as Director General (Seeds) of Seed Division in the Ministry of Agriculture as Additional Secretary. On December 29, 2022, he was appointed as the Chairman of BADC by order of His Excellency the President. Mr. Abdullah Sajjad served as Deputy Secretary and Joint Secretary, Department of Health Education and Family Welfare, Ministry of Health, NDC. He joined the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) in 1994 as an Assistant Commissioner and Magistrate in the administration cadre. Also during his career, he worked as Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Chief Executive Officer, Zilla Parishad and Additional Divisional Commissioner. Mr. Abdullah Sajjad, NDC was born in January 1967 in Ghatandi village of Bhuyapur upazila of Tangail district in a noble Muslim family. His father's name is Mr. Abdur Rahim Miah and mother's name is Mrs. Majeda Khatun. Both of them were secondary school teachers. Mr. Abdullah Sajjad, NDC completed his primary education from Bhuyapur Government Primary School and passed SSC from Bhuyapur Pilot High School in 1981 and HSC from Ibrahim Khan Government College in 1983. He passed first class with distinction in both the examinations. Mr. Abdullah Sajjad, NDC obtained his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Agricultural Economics from Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh. Dr. Md. Abdul Lafif 
Dr. Md. Abdul Latif an internationally reputed Plant Pathologist and currently serving as the Director (Administration and Common service) of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI). graduated from the Faculty of Agriculture of Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh in 1987. He obtained MS in Plant Pathology in 1992 from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University ‍and subsequently did PhD in Molecular Biology at Universiti Putra Malaysia in 2001. He was the former head of the Plant Pathology Division from 23/10/2014 to 8/7/2023 and during the tenure he also acted as the Program Leader of the Pest Management Program Area. 
Dr. Latif published 172 articles in the peer-reviewed journals. Among them, 127 published in internationally reputed journals with good impact factors. For his outstanding research accomplishments, Dr. Latif has won the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences-Dr. M Innas Ali Memorial Gold Medal Award 2021 in the field of biological sciences. He was awarded as a national science and technology fellow under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Bangladesh. For his outstanding research performances, he was also awarded as a postdoctoral and a senior research fellow to work at the Universiti Putra Malaysia. In both programs, he developed bacterial blight and blast resistant advanced lines. Dr. Latif contributed significantly to the advancement of basic and applied research at BRRI particularly the development and fine-tuning of rice production package for Bangladesh, where he received the outstanding award from Department for International Development (DFID), UK in 2004. For his outstanding performance on rice disease resistance and cold tolerance breeding program, Dr. Latif was awarded Transforming Rice Breeding-BRRI project annual prize during 2017 and 2019 at BRRI.
Finally, his research activities mainly focus on the development of disease resistant traits through marker-assisted breeding. In addition to fundamental research accomplishments, Dr. Latif took part actively in the development of 25 rice varieties including the latest Bangabandhu dhan100. All those varieties are cultivated intensively across the country that has impacted tremendously on livelihood improvement of the farmers and food security of the nation.
